Midhat Shagiakhmetov took part in the KazanSummit 2021 Economic Forum

The development of the halal market of products and services, the growth of export volumes, Islamic mortgages, youth diplomacy, as well as the digitalization of the economy were the main topics of the XII International Economic Summit "Russia – the Islamic World: KazanSummit2021", which started on July 28 in Kazan. The guests of honor of the forum were the Minister of Economic Development of Russia Maxim Reshetnikov and the President of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov. The event was also attended by the Minister of Economy of the Republic of Tatarstan Midkhat Shagiakhmetov.

Strengthening economic cooperation between Russia and the countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) is the main task of the forum. This was stated byPresident of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov. According to the head of the republic, Russia's cooperation with the Islamic world is a priority determined by Russian President Vladimir Putin, and he wished the forum participants successful work.

The importance of cooperation with the Islamic world was also noted by the Minister of Economic Development of Russia Maxim Reshetnikov. "It is important to talk about cooperation with Islamic countries, about the needs of the 20 million Muslims who live in Russia, and how our economy should change in order to meet these new needs," the minister stressed. "All the projects that will be born here will be carefully studied at the federal level."

He also noted that much attention is paid to the topic of halal within the framework of the forum. "This is a new, rapidly growing sector of the economy. The halal industry has a huge potential both within the country and in the field of export. These are investment, trade, fashion, culture, and creative industries.  All these issues will be actively discussed during the forum," the minister added.

Then Rustam Minnikhanov and Maxim Reshetnikov got acquainted with the halal industry exhibition Russia Halal Expo. This year, more than 100 exhibitors presented their products and services. The categories are very different: food, medicine, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, clothing, jewelry, tourism, IT, finance, etc. In addition to Russian companies, representatives of Turkey, Indonesia, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan organized their stands.

Also, a plenary session of the VII Machine-Building Cluster Forum was held within the framework of the summit. At present, the necessary conditions for the successful development of industrial enterprises have been created in the republic. A wide range of state support measures has been developed, there are territories of advanced socio-economic development, industrial parks.

The President drew attention to the fact that the issues of digitalization development are becoming a priority for the machine-building industry. "We are interested in being competitive, and we will change the attitude of our enterprises to automation. Without this, we should not expect big changes, " Minnikhanov said.

Maxim Reshetnikov noted that the Russian economy is returning to pre-pandemic positions, economic growth is going on in an overwhelming number of areas. He also called cooperation with Islamic countries a really working mechanism, the volume of trade turnover with them has increased by almost 30% in 5 years.  

Among the priorities, the minister outlined the accelerated development of digital technologies, as well as the transition to a low-carbon economy. During the meeting, the participants of the discussion talked about the challenges faced by the industry in the era of digitalization, and also considered the most relevant digital services.

The XII International Economic Summit "Russia - the Islamic World: KazanSummit 2021" is being held in Kazan on July 28-30.
